Double Bill & Meal – Dunkirk & The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society

To launch our 2018/19 season we have two films showing different aspects of World War II.

First is Dunkirk – ‘When 400,000 men couldn’t get home, home came for them.’

With amazing cinematography, we get a glimpse of this astounding evacuation story through the eyes of one of the stranded soldiers, two RAF pilots, and the civilian crew of one of the small rescue boats.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Fionn Whitehead, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh. The film won three Oscars.

The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society follows our meal.

Set after the end of the war, this beautiful story of love, friendship and the sadness of friends, lost focuses on life in Guernsey under Nazi occupation. Young Juliet Ashton catches the idea of writing a book, so visits the island, and forms an unexpected bond with the residents, leading to life changing steps along the way.

Kenneth Branagh Theatre: The Entertainer

We will be showing John Osborne’s The Entertainer live from the Garrick Theatre on Thursday 27th October at 7.00pm

Set against the backdrop of post-war Britain, John Osborneʼs modern classic conjures the seedy glamour of the old music halls for an explosive examination of public masks and private torment. Rob Ashford directs Kenneth Branagh as the unforgettable Archie Rice.

We will be showing Romeo And Juliet live from the Garrick Theatre at 7.00pm on Thursday 7th July 2016.

The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company Live cinema season continues with a new vision of Shakespeare’s heartbreaking tale of forbidden love. Branagh and his creative team present a modern passionate version of the classic tragedy.  

A longstanding feud between Verona’s Montague and Capulet families brings about devastating consequences for two young lovers caught in the conflict.

Reuniting the stars of his celebrated film of Cinderella, Kenneth Branagh directs Richard Madden and Lily James as Romeo and Juliet and Sir Derek Jacobi as Mercurio with Meera Syal as the Nurse.

We follow our live showing of William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale with an encore screening at 7.15pm on Sunday 29th November.

The first season of the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company Live promises an exceptional series of plays broadcast to cinemas from London’s Garrick Theatre over the course of a year.

The season begins with The Winter’s Tale. Shakespeare’s timeless tragicomedy of obsession and redemption is reimagined in a new production co-directed by Rob Ashford and Kenneth Branagh, following their triumphant staging of Macbeth in Manchester and Manhattan.

King Leontes appears to have everything: power, wealth, a loving family and friends. But sexual jealousy sets in motion a chain of events with tragic consequences…

The Winter’s Tale will star a remarkable group of actors, featuring Judi Dench as Paulina, alongside Tom Bateman (Florizel), Jessie Buckley (Perdita), Hadley Fraser (Polixenes), Miranda Raison (Hermione) and Kenneth Branagh as Leontes.

Macbeth – National Theatre

Macbeth - NT LiveWe will be showing the National Theatre’s live broadcast of Manchester International Festival‘s production of Macbeth on Saturday 20th July. Tickets for the performance have now sold out.

With Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn, Hamlet) in his first Shakespeare performance in over a decade as Macbeth, Alex Kingston (Doctor Who, ER) as Lady Macbeth and direction by Rob Ashford and Kenneth Branagh, this electrifying new production of Shakespeare’s tragic tale of ambition and treachery unfolds within the walls of an intimate deconsecrated Manchester church.

Please note that this performance begins at the later time of 8.30pm and that that there is no interval. Please arrive by 8.00pm to register and order drinks if required.
