Double Bill & Meal

October Sky & Galaxy Quest

October Sky is a drama based on the true story of Homer Hickam, a coal miner’s son who was inspired by the first Sputnik launch to take up rocketry against his father’s wishes.
In a 1950’s mining town called Coalwood, Homer and his friends set out to build rockets by trial and a lot of error. Unfortunately, most of the town and especially Homer’s father thinks that they are wasting their time. Only one teacher in the high school understands their efforts and encourages them to shoot for the stars and become contenders in the national science fair leading to college scholarships.
Directed by Joe Johnston.

After the meal we return for Galaxy Quest, a comedy sci-fi adventure recommended by someone who doesn’t like sci fi.
The stars of a 1970s sci-fi show – now scraping a living through re-runs and sci-fi conventions – are beamed aboard an alien spacecraft. Believing the cast’s heroic on-screen dramas are historical documents of real-life adventures, the band of aliens turn to the ailing celebrities for help in their quest to overcome the oppressive regime in their solar system.
Directed by Dean Parisot. With a star cast including Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver & Alan Rickman
