Lilies Of The Field

As a tribute to Sidney Poitier we have chosen the film that won him the Oscar for Best Actor.

Lilies of the Field tells the story of Homer Smith, an unemployed construction worker, and a group of East European nuns whose lives come together when he stops at a remote farm in the desert to get water when his car overheats.
The farm is being worked by the nuns, headed by the strict Mother Maria, who believes Homer has been sent by God to build a much needed church in the desert.

A fascinating, quiet film perfectly acted”.  Winner of Best Picture Oscar in 1963.
