We kick off our new season with a double bill with meal.
First up is The Swimmers (2022)
Based on a true story, two young sisters embark on a harrowing journey from their home in war-torn Syria. Putting their hearts and swimming skills to heroic use, they help other refugees reach safety crossing the Aegean Sea in an overcrowded dinghy. Moving forward to 2016 the younger sister Yusra reaches the 2016 Rio Olympics in the Refugee Olympic Team.
We follow this with The Swimmer (1968)
Well off ad-man Ned Merrill (Burt Lancaster) is visiting a friend when he notices the abundance of backyard pools that populate their upscale suburb. Ned suddenly decides that he’d like to travel the eight miles back to his own home by simply swimming across every pool in town. As he stops in each pool his interactions tell his
life story.
