Double Bill & Meal – Dunkirk & The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society

To launch our 2018/19 season we have two films showing different aspects of World War II.

First is Dunkirk – ‘When 400,000 men couldn’t get home, home came for them.’

With amazing cinematography, we get a glimpse of this astounding evacuation story through the eyes of one of the stranded soldiers, two RAF pilots, and the civilian crew of one of the small rescue boats.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Fionn Whitehead, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh. The film won three Oscars.

The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society follows our meal.

Set after the end of the war, this beautiful story of love, friendship and the sadness of friends, lost focuses on life in Guernsey under Nazi occupation. Young Juliet Ashton catches the idea of writing a book, so visits the island, and forms an unexpected bond with the residents, leading to life changing steps along the way.
