To launch our 2017/18 season we have turned to that giant figure of Hollywood, Dustin Hoffman.
First on the menu is the classic Midnight Cowboy (1969). Naive Joe Buck (Hoffman) arrives in New York, preening himself as a real ‘hustler’, only to find himself instead the victim of hustling. But in the process he makes his first ever real friend (Jon Voight) as together they face the hostile world of the big city. The film received an Oscar as Best Film, and features highly on the list of greatest films ever.
Tootsie (1982) follows. A talented actor is finding it impossible to get work because of his reputation as being difficult. So he adopts a new identity as a woman – and ‘she’ is brilliant. However some interesting situations ensue!. ‘Tootsie’ received ten Academy nominations, including in the Best Film category
The films are free to members and £5 to non-members.
