Tideswell Community Players

We like to support our sister organisation, Tideswell Community Players, whenever we can. Their next production, ‘Cheshire Cats’ should be a good night out – it’s in the parish church July 21-23 at 7.30pm. There is a spare night (Friday) in between our screenings of Richard III on Thur July 21 and Andre Rieu on Sat July 23, so do go along.

Feelgood comedy in Tideswell Church this July

Come and see a life affirming comedy this month when Tideswell Community Players perform Cheshire Cats by Gail Young in the parish church.

A group of women decide to enter a famous charity walk to raise money for breast cancer research while also enjoying a girly weekend away in London. So it’s on with trainers, fancy costumes and decorated bras as they aim to speedwalk their way to fundraising success. But there are a few surprises along the way and an unusual last minute change to the team.

This comic tribute to all those who raise funds for deserving causes will resonate with everyone. Don’t miss this genuinely funny and touching feelgood comedy! Raffle profits to go towards to fight against breast cancer.

7:30pm Thursday 21st July to Saturday 23rd July, St John the Baptist Church. Tickets £8 and £6 (concessions) from Tideswell Post Office and Litton Shop. Also buy through Tideswell Theatre Facebook Page and www.ticketsource.co.uk/tideswelltheatre (small booking fee applies). More information from theatre@tideswell.net, Tideswell Theatre on Facebook and Twitter or 01298 871063. Image shows the cover from the Samuel French edition of the play.

Tweet, tweet! National award for Tideswell Cinema

Tideswell Cinema was awarded a splendid glass trophy at the More2Screen Independent Cinema event in London on Wednesday.

The community cinema, which presents more than 50 live theatre, opera, ballet broadcasts and films a year, won the Best Social Media award for publicising its events on Facebook, Twitter and its own tideswellcinema.com website.

The ‘MAFTA’ Award for Tremendous Achievement was presented to committee member Diana Walkden on behalf of the Tideswell Cinema team who said: “We’re thrilled that Tideswell Cinema has been selected for the Best Social Media award.

“It’s especially rewarding as we are a non-profit community cinema run by enthusiastic volunteers – so enthusiastic we love to shout about our events on Twitter and Facebook. It’s great to be able to re-tweet More2Screen messages and tell people they can see these live events in the beautiful Peak District in a room above a village pub (The George) – what could be more enticing.”

More2Screen, which distributes live opera, ballet and theatre events to 5,000 cinemas in 70 territories, said: “Over the past year, we have been very impressed with your dedication to promoting the Royal Opera House season via Twitter and Facebook. You are always the first to retweet and share anything that More2Screen has posted. It is great to see that your venue is passionate about encouraging an appreciation for Event Cinema in your local area.”
