Mixing history with fiction, the film shows the dramatic events of the brutal suppression of communists in Chile in 1948, based around the life of Pablo Neruda, a Senator, former ambassador and well known poet (later being awarded the Nobel Prize). Neruda speaks out against repression and is forced to become a fugitive in his own country, hunted by a police inspector who feels he needs to get to know his prey, so immersing himself in Neruda’s poetry.
