We will be showing Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg from the Glyndebourne Festival on Tuesday 12th July at 5.30pm
Filmed at the 2011 festival, this is the biggest opera production Glyndebourne has ever staged, and one of the most spectacular. Meistersinger features an 80-strong orchestra, 80 chorus members, 36 actors and enormous sets built on a huge scale.
Hans Sachs is the most celebrated of the Mastersingers, a group of poets and musicians who have created complex rules for composing and performing their songs. Their world is turned upside down by free-thinking Walther who enters their singing competition to win his beloved Eva. But can this inspired rule-breaker win the hand of the woman he loves?
With the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Glyndebourne Chorus.
‘A masterstroke’ – The Independent
‘Grippingly original’ – Opera
